I'm Heather Hanson; writer, mixed-media artist, creative mystic, collector of beautiful old things, and the heart behind The Creative Sage Cottage.

Nestled beside a quiet creek in Buchanan, Michigan, the Cottage is more than a shop. It's a place where creativity, intention, wonder, and meaningful conversation come together. A place to slow down, listen closely, make something with your hands, and reconnect with the truest parts of yourself.

A few years ago, my husband and I did something wonderfully impractical.

We purchased the contents of a vintage craft and hobby store and brought a warehouse full of vintage craft supplies home from Missouri. Boxes upon boxes of beads, findings, paper arts supplies, jewelry-making treasures, mixed-media materials, forgotten tools, and creative possibilities arrived here in Michigan and eventually found their home inside this little 1940s cottage by the creek.

What began as a dream of opening a creative shop soon revealed itself to be something much larger.

Over time, the Cottage became a gathering place. A place for workshops, conversations, creative exploration, and soul-centered experiences. A place where women come to create, reflect, celebrate, heal, and remember who they are beneath all the expectations and noise of everyday life.

In May of 2026, after more than a year of building, digging, carrying stones, dreaming, and creating by hand, I completed The Wheel at Quiet Creek.

Born from a vision first planted in my heart during a retreat to Sedona, The Wheel is a unique walking experience designed to inspire reflection, insight, and a deeper connection to your own inner wisdom. Since opening it to visitors in June 2026, it has become one of the most meaningful offerings on the property.

Whether you're visiting to browse vintage craft supplies, hunt for creative treasures, join a workshop, experience The Wheel, receive a handcrafted Mojo Bag, create an Intention Candle, or spend time in Magical Mentoring, my hope is always the same:

The Shop at the Cottage is filled with vintage and contemporary supplies for jewelry making, mixed-media art, paper crafting, art and junk journals, creative inspiration, candles, oracle decks, and all manner of delightful discoveries.

The experiences offered here are designed to nourish both creativity and spirit, because I have come to believe that the simple act of making, creating, imagining, and reflecting can be profoundly healing.
