The Tiny Craft Cottage

 I’m often asked what inspired me to start gathering such insanely large quantities of craft supplies. It’s a fair question—after all, “hunter and gatherer of art supplies” was never part of my original life plan. But life, as it turns out, has a way of nudging us to exactly where we’re meant to be.

I am definitely what you might call a multi-passionate creative. If it involves trying a new art or craft and buying supplies, I’m usually all in. But the true reason I gather and sell craft supplies here at The Tiny Craft Cottage traces back to one quiet, unforgettable moment—one woman who changed everything for me.

Eleven years ago, while Gary and I had an artsy-craft shop and gallery, a woman came in and softly asked if she could purchase one single glue stick. Not a package—just one. Her child had a project, hot glue would do the trick, but money was tight. Of course, I sent her home with a bag full of glue sticks and art supplies. What stayed with me was the realization that something I had always taken for granted—basic creative supplies—were often completely out of reach for many families.

The very next day, I put out a quiet call for donated art and craft supplies people were no longer using. The response was overwhelming. People were incredibly generous. From that point on, I made sure word traveled: if someone needed creative supplies and did not have the resources, they should absolutely come see me. It was an absolute privilege.

After the shop eventually closed, most of those donated supplies were gifted onward—but I never forgot that woman. Fast forward a few years, and through what I can only describe as a divine nudge, I stumbled onto an entire shipping container filled partially with brand new rubber craft stamp sets from a very well known Stamp Company... I inquired about purchasing the entire lot and the rest is history.  

From that day on, I began creating a network of various channels that would enable me to purchase private “craft estates”—collections from individuals and businesses who had closed their doors but were storing rooms, garages, and even warehouses full of new, vintage/new and never-used supplies. Occasionally, people still reach out to donate untouched supplies, knowing I always keep a little “secret stash” for someone who might need it.

Today, the inventory at The Tiny Craft Cottage comes from these unique sources, allowing me to offer vintage and new craft supplies at truly wonderful prices. Because I don’t purchase directly from manufacturers, the inventory is always changing—and honestly, that’s part of the magic. This is not a thrift store, but I do promise your creative habit won’t require a second mortgage.

So the next time you feel the pull for an artsy-crafty supply fix, I hope you’ll pop in for a visit. In the meantime,
